Weight Estimated of 230' X 64' X 14' Deck Cargo Barge

This week i learned how to calculate the Steel Weight Estimated of 230' X 64' X 14' Deck Cargo Barge based on the construction plan. First i have encounter problem of how to calculate the quantity of the bracket and stiffeners, but later i was assist by my supervisor as he has much more experience than me in this.

7th Week, Stern Supporting Pole design

This week i was required to design a Stern Supporting Pole . The shape of the pole was first draft in solidworks. There are Api pire, Ellipse plate, bracket and etc.

In solidworks, there are 2D sketching and 3D sketching. in this design, 3D sketching is needed draft this design. After finished drafting, all the part was extruded and completed the design.

Analysis was done by using Simulation Xpress feature in solidworks by added fixture, material, load. Graph of Von Mises Stress was generated and the factor of safety also calculated.

After finished the analysis, the drawing was produced in form of top view, side view, front view and also isometric view. All the dimension was attached on the drawing.

The 6th Week of Trainning

This week i was assigned to design a ship Base based on the dimension refer from Grade One Marine Shipyard. Ship Base basically used to support the hull of the ship to park on it. I sketch it on the solidworks software and then extrude it to the 3D parts. The analysis was then done by the Simulation Xpress. Drawing was also be produced and printed in A3 and A4 format for different purposes.

Visit Grade One Marine Shipyard

Last Week, 3/5/2010 - 6/5/2010, Mr. Johan, W.M. Putra and i was on duty to visit Grade One Marine Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. for inspection of the progress of work according to the schedule on vessel Masindra 13. Transporting the Chrome Liner and seals after machining to the shipyard was also part of the mission. The chrome liners act as rubbing surfaces for the rubber lip seals but grooving from frictional wear has been a problem.

Grade One Marine Shipyard Sdn Bhd was located at Lumut Port, Perak. It takes around 4 hours drive to reach there. i met En. Azlan , the project supervisor for the detail of their work on vessel Masindra 13. The vessel have few area to be repair such as hull repairs at Bulkheads, Plates, Hull sweep blast and paint, gauging (check hull thickness under engine room), chain locker cleaned and paint, Machinery repair such as first line valve, sea chest and sea chest strainer check, rope guard install, stern tube flushed, chrome liner, chrome liner seal ( for oil and water) & oring replace and install.

After understanding all the work that have to be done, they have prepared a guest room for us to rest and meeting inside the room. After work, we go to rent the hotel at Oriental Star, Lumut for 3days.

I have learned that their company is well organized, every department has their own duty, and the safety and health was being focused. Every one must wear safety shoe, safe helmet and smoking is prohibited.

The next day i was trying to get the dimension of the ship-base, stern supporting pole, hull supporting stand. I try to understand the design by consulting the project supervisor, Mr. Azlan to give me more information about the design.

I've gain a lot of experience there few days from the workplace and i think this is the opportunity for me to learn as much as i can.

Delta Plate Design & Analysis

This week i was told to design a Delta Plate. Delta Plate is a triangle Plate which has 3 holes each side used for ship towing purpose. Delta Plate must be design to sustain the tension stress without crack. By using Solidworks, i was able to perform the design and analysis.

Ship Survey On Barge Viva 7

Today i was assigned by my supervisor to survey on Barge Viva 7. Since She's in the middle of the river, a small boat is used to transport us to the barge driven by Captain Dai . I was responsible to measure the dimension of the barge such as Length Overall (LOA), Breath etc. Thickness Gauge was used to measure the thickness of the steel plate at 40 most potentially deformed spot. The value was recorded in the table.
